Part 3 of 3: Engage the Senses with Sounds and Scents
Welcome to the final post in our three-part series on biophilic bathroom design. In Part 1, we introduced the foundations of biophilic design. In Part 2, we explored the essential role of water and plants in creating a relaxing, nature-inspired space. Now, we turn our attention to two often-overlooked elements: the sounds and scents of nature.

According to the National Kitchen and Bath Association’s 2025 Bath Trend report, 65% of the study’s respondents indicated they believe an “organic/natural” theme will be prominent for the next three years.
Good design engages all five senses, and sound and scent can have a profound impact on mood, relaxation, and overall well-being. Let’s explore how adding natural soundscapes and aromatic elements to your bathroom can complete the experience.

The Sounds of Nature
You can’t be outdoors and not hear nature. Bring it into your bathroom for an uplifting sensory experience. Create a playlist with a variety of sounds:
• Ocean waves
• A crackling campfire
• Bird songs
• Gentle rain
• Distant thunder
Bluetooth speakers or built-in soundscapes can subtly layer these “songs” into your design.
Aroma-therapy
Earthy scents can be some of the most pleasant experiences outdoors; fresh rain, a woodsy path, new-cut grass. Just as natural sounds calm the mind, familiar scents can ease tension and nurture regeneration. Adding aromatherapy to your bathroom completes the sensory experience, making it a true sanctuary.
Here are a few scent-sory ideas:
• Essential Oil Diffusers. Fill your bathroom with the soothing scents of citrus, eucalyptus, lavender, or sandalwood. Diffusers are a simple, stylish way to add calming aromas to your daily routine.
• Herbal Bath Soaks & Shower Steamers. Incorporate bath products made with natural ingredients like rosemary, chamomile, and mint. Steamers release essential oils when activated by hot water, turning your shower into a spa.
• Dried Botanicals & Greenery. Hang eucalyptus branches in your shower or place lavender sachets near your vanity to promote relaxation.
• Candles Made from Natural Wax. Opt for soy, coconut, or beeswax candles with essential oil blends. Place them around your tub or vanity for a warm, soft glow paired with gentle, earthy scents like cedarwood or vetiver.
Your UltraCraft designer can help design your space with cabinetry that hides electronic components and speakers, as well as shelving to hold diffusers and candles.

Relax, Release, Restore
When you surround yourself with the sights, sounds, and scents of nature, your bathroom becomes a place where you can truly renew. Biophilic design is more than bringing nature inside—it’s about creating a home that nurtures your well-being every day.
